Snowcap

We have travelled along old route 66 a few time in our travels and we always stop in Seligman. The town trades heavily on the fact that they are on the historic road and there are several noteworthy tourist traps. Bruce had to indulge an ice cream fix here. I love the car, but I especially like the "Sorry, We're Open" sign. They also advertise dead chicken for sale. Must be a roadkill joke.

Aliens

My girls and I stopped in Hope BC to check out the totem pole park and the gazebo. When I asked them to pose they assumed the flying birdman posture. I have always loved this photo, it makes me giggle. It also makes me think of the big UFO in "Encounters of the Third Kind" hence the title "Aliens".

I am desperately trying to get this painting and another ready to drop off for a show tomorrow! How do I always manage to run out of time!?

Moon Woman

This is another painting I made while at Red Deer Summer Art Series. I must say they have great models.

I am getting ready to go to Whidbey Island to take a workshop with Donna Howell-Sickles. I'm quite excited. I'm also looking forward to the drive through Washington. I could be a nomad so easily. I want one of those beautiful gypsy wagons!

"King" David

I made this painting in class and donated it for a fundraising silent auction for Red Deer to raise money for a scholarship fund for the Series Summer classes. I am hoping to get a scholarship to attend down the road! I liked the imperious air he put on. I thought he resembled a ceasar.

Behind the eight ball

I can't believe it is mid-July! I have to get two paintings and one art shack pretty well constructed in the next 10 days. Argh.

I just got back from a week's class in Red Deer, always time well spent at their summer series art sessions.

This is an oil painting I made. (I hate oil!)
Bev Tosh taught the class and showed us how to put on a dark ground and then rub back into the ground to establish our values. She just used paint straight from the tube, no mucking with solvents!! Lastly, you lay in your color. I donated the painting for fund-raising for the college. There was no way I was going to try to rassle that big wet painting all the way back to the Flats. I got oil paint on my good purse as it was ( plus my clothes).

This is the painting that sold

On Monday I delivered 30 paintings to our little public gallery in Invermere. We had a nice reception on Wednesday evening for myself and 4 other artist. They main comments I heard about my work was "love the bright colors" "sense of humor" and "don't like the wrinkles on the women" (re: my topographic style using the black lines to delineate changes in planes) There were a few paintings I hesistated to put in the show but then those were the ones people came up to me and told me how much they liked them! I can't judge, therefore I hung just about everything. Pink Deer sold! I liked it but didn't thng anyone else would. Go figure..Now I must get busy again soon.

Island Pond

Island pond is the name of a pond about 15 km south of Canal Flats. I like the trees in the middle and it is intersting to look at. I was hugely frustrated the day I painted it outside. The light kept changing! One minute the background was quite dark and the next minute is was a mid-tone. Plein-aire painting is very challenging but I am hoping to do more of it this summer.
