Visiting Fort Steele

Stepping Out

There are historical skits performed at Ft. Steele. This character is one of the ladies of ill-repute from across the Kootenay River. I love the striped dress.
I get to be a judge at the Kootenay FAll Fair at the fort this afternoon. But Bruce and I are going to make a quick run to watch the wife-carrying race at Windermere this morning.

Sally's Girls

I had a lady approach me and ask me to do a painting of her granddaughters in their Ft. Steele. apparel. I am always terrified about comissions and this one doubly so because it involved people and portraits are so challenging. However, I think the little painting is quite sweet ( I had a really good, supplied photo to work from, thank goodness) and they seem to be happy with it.

I'm published!
I strongly urge artists to cultivate any writer friends. My friend, Tony Berryman, wrote a terrific article about me and it is published in the May issue of "Art Calendar" magazine. If you go to the subscription part of the website, you can download the entire May issue (or one of your choosing) for only $2.95! I think that's a great deal. And as soon as I have free moment, I intend to read the rest of that months magazine. Check it out, it appears to be a good artist mag.Great thanks to Vicki Shuck (check out her wonderful blog) for letting me know that the article had been published.
The big boys at the top are the Ft. Steele Clydes.
