Struggling along

So, colors come and go. The woman's face pleases  me but the girl's is truly frustrating. She looks older than she should be. I had to photograph this in the basement and the colors are awful compared to what is there. Photographs lie but they can also help you see trouble spots. I added the dark bar because I thought it grounded the subjects. Oh well, more work.

Onward and Upward

First, I want to thank everyone who took time to visit the Virtual tour. Second, I want to thank an aquaintance who allowed me to scan wonderful images of her family in all their beach-going splendor. These are photos from the 1920's, one of my most favorite eras. I am brimming with painting ideas.

However, winter is closing in on the Flats very quickly and I am squeezing the most out of these brief last sunny "warm days" as I clean up the yard and pack in fire wood. Too soon it will be cold and grey outside and I can huddle by the wood furnace and paint all day.

The end of the day

I liked her melancholy, maybe she lost her beach ball.

I struggled with this painting for several days because I couldn't get the figure to resolve with the background. Then I glazed the whole piece with a thin quinicidrone gold glaze and that seemed to pull it together and give it that afterglow.

It is sunny but very cold outside. I just came in from walking my dog and my fingertips are still hurting though I was wearing heavy gloves! It's nice to sit by the furnace and paint beach scenes.

I love old swimsuit photos. I especially like photos of people wearing the old swim caps (although I loathed wearing them).

One to Keep--Nymph

I made this painting a couple of years ago and have become more and more fond of it, so I think it will no longer be for sale. It reminds me of my Mom, not that it looks like her but there is something in her expression that makes me smile.

If anyone out there has prayers to spare, My cousin Charlene is gravely in need of them. She is not recovering from heart surgery as well as expected and we still need he, if possible.
