First I made a large painting along this theme for my living room. So I decided to try a small one. I kinda like it.

We have the technology....

I made several collages for the "Papier Colle Femmes" project a few years ago. I was very fond of a few of the collages and have missed them ever since. I decided to create similar ones for my own benefit.

This one depicts Artemis, goddess of wild animals.

Fawns!

I love all the Mama deers and fawns I see on my walks and driving around town. I know they have become a plague in some towns. My heart still leaps every time I see one. I know they are wild animals and try to give them lots of space.

Happy Valentine's Day

I spent a lot of years single so I choose to think of Valentine's Day not as a romantic/lovers holiday but a day to appreciate the people I love--partner, daughters, relatives, wonderful friends.

We had a doe that raised triplets in the back yard a couple of years ago. One ran up and snatched a quick kiss. It was a sweet if fuzzy photo. I don't think it really works as a painting. Ah well!

30 in 30 day 3

Listening   12x12

Living in the Rocky Mountain trench brings me into contact with lots of wildlife. I prefer the ungulates to the predators. 

I was having great fun with gelatin prints. I used some of the papers that I made for the body of the deer.

Thrift Away

I quite liked this stretch denim dress that I found in  a thrift store but it just wasn't generous enough in the hip area for my generous pear shape. I decided to take a page from Sally at http://www.alreadypretty.com/ and try layering a dress over a dress (or in this case a knit skirt). I'm kinda liking it.

Dress, skirt and boots, all thrifted. Tights from We love colors. Accessories, accumulated over the years.

I felt the need to explore collage incorporating aluminum duct tape yet again. I do really like the deer in this series. I should try another animal!

Beware the deer

I quite like this painting, but I haven't had too many people show interest in it...so it was safe for intervention, I thought. This, to me, is the beauty of acrylics. You can keep changing things.

I wanted the little bandit"s head to be more in focus. I don't like the line the trees make right in the middle of the painting so I may go back in and soften that line somehow. Urban deer are an explosive issue in this neck of the woods. They are becoming aggresive (they have attacked dogs and people). There is a movement to cull some of the them (not popularly supported by many people). Fortunately, in our little burg, we still manage to live and let live and give each other some space.

Crystal Night

So I continued to tinker with this painting until I achieved this. I like the colors better and it is a match for the other painting. I am going to hang them facing one another in the dining room for the Christmas season.

Discombobulated

This seemed like a good idea at the start and then I felt it went rather sideways.I didn't like the color of the deer against the background.  I was going to paint out the background until I saw it in the photo and liked the snowflakes better as they popped in the photo as opposed to how they were looking in my dim basement. I kept at it and will post the result in the next blog entry.

Twins

As usual, the photo doesn't quite do justice to the richness of the background. This was a 24x24 painting. It was based on a photo of the twins who visited our pond. I was happy with its boldness and texture. And I am happy to say, it is sold.

Snow Buck

I like the marbelized effect of the paint on tyvek. I had originally made the mountain black and liked the veining in it but the black swallowed the deer so I had to back off and try white. I wish more of the texture would show up in the photo.

It's fun making these small paintings but If I were smart, I would probably paint them on gessoed watercolor paper and then mount the good ones on canvas a la R. Burridge.

Winter Arrives

There is a fierce snowstorm outside with snow blowing horizontally! Jinx is quite perturbed and complains about the conditions. As good a time as any to stay inside and paint.

I am loving the effect of paint on tyvek, a lovely soft mottling (as per the deer hide).

Dream Deer

I am hoping to do a series exploring the deer image and experimental backgrounds. This one incorporates handmade rubber stamps stamped in moulding paste, tyvek, sprinkles of alcohol on still wet paint and glitter!
