Abstract Art painting class

I taught an abstract painting class to 11 students over the weekend. It was sponsored by the Headwaters Art Society.

We had a great time. Fairmont Hot Springs Resort was terrific.

Quotation rotation sequence

I quite like the colors in this abstract. I am going tor try to use them in a figurative painting. QRS stands for quotation rotation sequence, a bit of nonsense that I just like the sound of. I am constantly collecting art quotes. Here's one for the day

High rise and an abstract

I have a very high rise. I am tired of my tights sliding down towards my hips. So I cut the top off and added a 2 inch knit band. Now they stay up near my waist line. An inelegant solution but a comfortable one. No one is going to see the amendment but me. I wish I could do this with my other pants!!

Exploring abstracts. I don't know why even a little lettering suggests a narrative to me.

Abstract thought

I had a request for an abstract so I made an abstract. I really like abstract art but it is so Hard!  And probably good for me to tackle because if forces you to think about design...you can't be carried by subject matter. The really good painters know this, (I am thinking of O'keeffe and Bateman).

Rats, I had a title for this last night, a fairly decent title and now it has slipped away. Any suggestions?

 I am considering holding some afternoon workshops in beautiful downtown Canal Flats. How to make and use stamps, gelatin prints, rust paper, collage paper. Would anyone be interested?

Pederson Workshop

Last weekend was spent at Centre 64 attending a Jean Pederson workshop. Jean is a mixed media artist.

We explored using many kinds of acrylic mediums, gesso, transparent to opague paint. My main objective was to learn how to make an abstract look wonderful instead of a dog's breakfast. I think Jean has given me some great steps to achieve that. Check her out at:

I love her art installation "Farm Fragments". It consists of lots of ephemara pulled from her Uncle's old farmstead and her abstract paintings inspired by the farm. It takes me right back to the rural Illinois I grew up in.
