Melancholy

Melancholy 16x16 acrylic collage

This reminded me a little of the Degas painting by the same name, hence the title.

And then, Tess got the joke

I love the textures in this one. I started with painted collage papers, painted over that, then went back in with stamps in some areas. I really like making my own stamps with that soft eraser-type stuff and little cutters you get from the art store. Use a cutter! I tried initially with an exacto knife, the cutters are way easier.

Nude #1

Constantin Brancusi, "Command like a king, work like a slave, create like a god." This was a quote from today's Painter's Key newsletter. I like it very much.

I have a stack of life drawing sketches tucked beneath the spare bed. I don't want to throw them out and I don't want to frame them because they are so large (and would be expensive to frame). I also have a stack of rather shabby 18x24 canvas stretchers I bought at a yard sale. I decided to collage the drawing onto the canvas and go from there. I experimented with some scraping of paint, wasn't satisfied with the result (for me, when in doubt, go bolder). I tried to use my homemade stamps over both the figure and background to bring the two together and finished with a glaze of quinicidrone gold. I can live with her for now.

Prizes

At the top is the frame, place mats and pink flower vase I found at the thrift shop on one of my last scrounging bouts. I find it is a way to quench my gathering instinct without damaging my checkbook too much. It is recycling too!

The Red Dress won 2nd place in it's category at the Vis Art show. There was a small cash prize that I may blow on the Wilmer community garage sale this morning.

A sunny spring day, some cash in hand, my honey driving the truck and some junk...it doesn't get much better!

Hannah's Hat

This wonderful girl showed up at Pynelogs last summer looking glorious in her cocky hat. This is my rendition.

In the Pink

Weird, I thought sure I had posted this painting before. Oh well. I seem to really crave pink and orange for the last few months. What can I say, it makes me feel happy. Morgan has a wonderful sunny living room in her turn of the century apartment. It's great to just hang over the sofa and watch the action on the street below. The three flights of stairs are a good workout!

Flower Girl

This is based on a photo of my daughter Morgan working at the flower shop. I hope she likes it.
