Gelatin printing

I have been playing with gelatin prints

I made a "permanent" gelatin plate with the following instructions:
 Permanent Gelatin plate Recipe -
8 packets of plain gelatin (knox)
3 120 ml bottles glycerin, found at the drug store

 1 cup boiling water
1 cup cool water

I dissolved the gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water. I then added the glycerin and 1 cup of cold water and mixed thoroughly. I put a piece of parchment paper in the bottom of my 9x13 pyrex dish (I used plastic wrap on my first attempt, it left marks and didn’t work so well). Pour gelatin into dish and then skim lightly with a piece of paper to remove little bubbles. Let set for at least 24 hours. It does NOT have to be refrigerated.
If it starts to crack or gets wonky for any reason, microwave it for a couple of minutes and follow the pouring instruction---tada! Like new!

I spent a wonderful afternoon with Judy Walker and Sally Flowers. This is a little collage I made utilizing one of my gelatin print papers. Hanging out with creative types is the bomb!

Fawns!

Fawn2           acrylic collage

I love all the Mama deers and fawns I see on my walks and driving around town. I know they have become a plague in some towns. My heart still leaps every time I see one. I know they are wild animals and try to give them lots of space.

Don't Text or chat and drive...Please

Some things are a miss. I really like this t-shirt, but the tight fit is not particularly flattering over my love handles. I think I might try it with a pair of slacks peeking out from a blazer for a fall look. I can't decide whether to shorten the skirt or just release it back into the thrift store. It's nice heavy denim but looks clunky in this photo. Check out other stylist at:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2013/08/visible-monday-111-colorful-karina-for.html

and now for some blather

I was convinced after I watched Mythbusters:  http://www.psblaw.com/2012/08/24/mythbusters-prove-cellphone-driving-is-as-dangerous-as-drunk-driving/

It's personal for me. My Mother was killed (many years ago) by what was probably a distracted 16 year old driver. I miss her everyday.

Allen and Randy

Allen and Randy  16x16 acrylic

The painting is an ode to imperious big brothers and the younger siblings who want to be close to them (usually, an unappreciated sentiment). The title is a sly nod to inlaws who have been hugely helpful in house/pet sitting, etc.

I am always reminded of the Smothers Brothers (oldster alert!) "Mom loved me best" or as I often tell my older brother "They had you for practice."

Spirals!

So I modeled my spiral skirt with a white shirt, not bad.

but I like it even better with the orange.

Sorry about the fuzzy first photo. It was the same camera, time, setting...I don't know why some fuzz up! Anyhow, go see other fine photos at visible monday:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2013/08/visible-monday-109-i-dont-match-but-i-go.html#disqus_thread

Swim sisters

Swim sisters   16x20 acrylic collage

Two strong sisters that look like they could easily swim the English channel. I added collage bits, corrected some of the skin tones, added the outline and a few shadows. I think this one is done.
