This is the painting that sold

On Monday I delivered 30 paintings to our little public gallery in Invermere. We had a nice reception on Wednesday evening for myself and 4 other artist. They main comments I heard about my work was "love the bright colors" "sense of humor" and "don't like the wrinkles on the women" (re: my topographic style using the black lines to delineate changes in planes) There were a few paintings I hesistated to put in the show but then those were the ones people came up to me and told me how much they liked them! I can't judge, therefore I hung just about everything. Pink Deer sold! I liked it but didn't thng anyone else would. Go figure..Now I must get busy again soon.

Island Pond

Island pond is the name of a pond about 15 km south of Canal Flats. I like the trees in the middle and it is intersting to look at. I was hugely frustrated the day I painted it outside. The light kept changing! One minute the background was quite dark and the next minute is was a mid-tone. Plein-aire painting is very challenging but I am hoping to do more of it this summer.

"Hot Date"

Hot Date is finished, I think. I'm off for a week to interact with my kin in Illinois. My daughters are flying down from Yellowknife to Cranbrook and then we fly/drive to Olney Illinois. I am looking forward to having most of my small family together for the first time in about 18 years. I also look forward to seeing the farmland. The wheat will be pretty now.

In the bush

Bruce and I were out scouting a piece of property for his work. We had just stepped out of the truck and were taking pictures when I heard something rustling in the bush about 100 feet away. I let out a yell and lept for the truck. I was answered by a hoot from a mountain biker below us. Bruce was having a good laugh at my expense while I proceeded to get some photos of the site. As we turned around to get into the truck, Mr. Black Bear was coming down the mountain to see what was happening. I snapped off a couple of shots but only because I was right next to the truck. Bears can move amazingly fast. I figure I now only need to see a wolf and a grizzly to complete my predator list for this year. Frankly, I much prefer the company of the ungulates!!
