A few people asked why the Brown Betty teapot is called by such a name.
Elizabeth was a very popular 19th century name. Many servants had that name but it was shortened to Betty (if you are shouting for your servent, Elizabeth is rather long)....a Betty served you tea. A nice, cozy, fat, brown teapot became a "brown betty".
It makes me think of the teapot in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" (although she was not brown).
