Bird-brained

Clark's Crow #1    12x12    $175

Still painting birds. I like the Clark's Crows because they are very graphic in their black, white and grey suits but they make a horrible sound reminscent of the noise the Martians make in "Mars Attack".

Try Some

I found this peanut dispenser in an antique shop when I was in Nelson for a workshop last year. It doesn't look quite this souped up (oh, the wonders of photoshop!) but I am still quite fond of it.

There is a painter, Anne Hansen, in Victoria, that is quite a free spirit and has become an example to me. Well-known art critic, Robert Amos comments:

"When I began to compare her skill level to other artists and suggest ways in which she might make her paintings "better," she stopped me. "It's hard for me to see art as competitive. That's a kind of corporate way of thinking."

Right on Anne, for putting yourself first. Check out her work at:

Share the Love---Give Away

I have decided to sponsor my first give-away to mark the 500th posting of my blog (yeah, I kinda missed that, it happened over Christmas...). Just send me a comment or an email (mention the give away) and on february 19th I will throw everyone's name into a hat and let my DH pick the winner! The prize is my hot of the Blurb press copy of the Avian Alphabet containing the whole bird alphabet as shown through out the valley last year. Now is the time for all you lurkers to come out of the woodwork and all my loyal followers, I wish you luck.

F is for Flicker

There was an unfortunate hanging incident and the original "F" was damaged. I think I like the new painting better.

J is for Jay

I think the Stellar's Jays are quite dapper.

I am Overwhelmed with the information about using social media that I picked up at the Nelson arts summit. If you want to see a powerful short video about it view social media revolution on youtube. It might just blow your mind.

Does anyone else have the problem of merrily typing on their computer and it suddenly flips into french complete with all the accents etc. totally ignoring question and quotation marks!?

Home sweet home!

Another bird painting.. It's good to be home. The animals were estatic. Ten days is about our limit for being away. But it sure was fun and Bruce is my favorite travel companion. Now I have lots of catching up to do!!!

B

I really like the background on this one. I had left-over paint and used it and my home-made stamps to decorate a sheet of tissue paper. Then I just kept it for the right project. I think I'll make some more papers today.

Avian Alphabet

I am painting an alphabet for "Wings over the Rockies". I'm trying to use birds that are local. Try looking up birds that start with "i". I will hang this show at the Invermere Public Library and sell cards for it at Village Arts gallery. But first, I have to get it done!
