A great Feb. 7th

HK

I was working in Lac Le Jeune helping my first husband with finishing touches on a log house he had built. I was bleaching stair railings and getting grumpy because my back was hurting. The pain was steadily getting stronger to the point that I finally mentioned it to my husband. He said, “Maybe we should start timing these pains.”  I was slow to catch on even though I was about 10 days past my due date. The pains were about five minutes apart. We headed for home and left my older baby daughter with her Auntie.  The nurses at the Royal Inland Hospital were just as wonderful as they had been for my first birth. After a long night of labor and a brief and harrowing stint with forceps, HK popped into the world like a champaigne cork.

A day late but nonetheless...

purple heart   8x10 acrylic

Whether you call it Groundhog’s Day, Candlemas or Imbolc, February 2 falls midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox and in many traditions is considered the beginning of spring.

Imbolc: from Ol-melc (ewe's milk) because this is the time that ewe’s begin to lactate. It is also considered the time of year when the earth begins to stir. In agrian areas there are often ceremonies to bless the fields. It is the time of the return of the light and renewal of life.

I am happy, happy because it now stays light until 6 pm. Spring is coming!

Happy Valentine's Day

Mumkiss    16x12   acrylic collage

I spent a lot of years single so I choose to think of Valentine's Day not as a romantic/lovers holiday but a day to appreciate the people I love--partner, daughters, relatives, wonderful friends.

We had a doe that raised triplets in the back yard a couple of years ago. One ran up and snatched a quick kiss. It was a sweet if fuzzy photo. I don't think it really works as a painting. Ah well!

Happy Valentine's Day

One thing I tell people is NOT to get married on Vaelentine's Day. If your marriage fails that holiday becomes exceptionally bitter and mocking to you. However, I learned to look beyond "romantic" love and appreciate other kinds of love.
The love of daughters. I am so fortunate to have a couple of WONDERFUL ones.

The love of good parents. I had a pretty idyliic childhood. I was lucky.

The love of good friends. I don't have many friends, but the chosen few are magnificent! And have gotten me through tough times.

The love of pets. Unconditional! Especially, those that aspire to be lap dogs.

But, again, I am very lucky and have my little cheesecake making pal....

A special Valentines greeting for all my followers and people who leave comments. You all mean a lot to me.

Mountain Heart!

As I was sitting eating my oatmeal and watching the rosy light on Greenstone Mountain, a perfect little heart appeared. How cool is that?

My Best Valentine

My Baby is 25 years old today! This is an unfinished collage I made of her several years ago. I just stuck on the hearts so it would fit in for February. The wings were her Grandpa's air force wings. She used them as an inspiration for her tattoo, making it Canadian by replacing the eagle with a maple leaf.

Check it out...I have added Ann Holtby-Jones to my blog list. Ann is a great watercolorist of local landscapes and horses.

Happy Groundhog's Day

I am trying to make a heart series for February this year. This is "Blue Woven Heart". I am also making art cards from this series and flogging them at my local galleries. I hardly make any money on my cards but I consider them advertising as they have all my info on the back. And you never know where they will go. Twelve down, sixteen to go and I'm running short on time!

Candlemas or Imbolc

This is the dawn of the year. All the secret sleeping seeds down in the earth are starting to respond to the return of the light. Imbolc roughly translates from a gaelic word that means ewe's milk as this is the time that herd animals start to lactate and prepare for birth. The goddess of Imbolc is Brigid, a goddess of creativity and fertility. Candlemas honors St. Brigid.

I hope to have a bonfire (or at least candles) and plan what I want to accomplish or plant this year and ask for inspiration. This painting is "Motley Blue Hearts".
