June--flying by

The King of Rhubarb   16x16 acrylic   SOLD

I am still unpacking, cleaning, sorting. This is the longest I have gone without painting in the last nine years. Pretty scary.

Maybe, I should qualify that. This is the longest I have gone without painting creatively. I inherited this very dark dining room with our new abode. I found the darkness depressing.

Two coats of primer, two coats of paint and a new chandelier create a dining room that I don't wince at. I am also considering a blog about my new environment because this village is so different.

The most amazing race

Secretariat won the triple crown in 1973.

In the Belmont, a race they didn't think Secretariat would win because they considered him a sprinter, you see Ron Turcotte look back at the field falling behind. He knew he was racing the clock then. When he asked Secretariat to go, that horse flew.

You can watch that amazing race here:

It was the most amazing race ever and still makes me tear up.

D-Day

My Dad flew a mission for the 8th Air force on D-Day. They flew over Arromanches, France. They were told that they would be making history that day. While I am proud of his courage and his service to his country, I know that someone had to be on the receiving end of those bombs. It was years before I found the place he was talking about because he pronounced it "arrow= manchees".

I found this interesting article regarding Arromanches.

Mother/Daughter time

My daughter came to spend the week with me so that we could have some mother daughter time before My baby has her baby. Once we got her here (now we know why they call Castlegar airport, Cancelgar!) We actually managed to find enough art supplies in my still unorganized art room to make some prints. It was a great visit.

It can't be June!!!

Little Piggies  16x20 acrylic

This is a painting I made several years ago. One of my daughter's friends was painting her toenails on our front stoop. I admired the way the stair rail shadow fell on her.

I still exist, I am still unpacking! And now, housepainting. I am working on a zesty orange kitchen!

***Pynelogs Reception***

Airman    16x16 acrylic collage

Hey everybody, there is a reception tonight at Pynelogs for myself, Rita Rankin, Colin Bell, Pam Williamson, Bev Delyea, and Dorial Davis. It should be a great show. Go down, shmooze, have a glass of wine and know that I would love to be there with you. I had to pass because my car's transmission is being a bit wonky and I was afraid to make the trip in it until it gets fixed.

The Raven has landed

I am steadily unpacking in the new locale. We had cold, wet weather for days. It was a good time to be inside unpacking, cleaning and painting. This week we are getting sunny warm weather, YAY!
I have been working like a field hand until I am exhausted. I am also contending with the pollen that accompanies all the lovely blooming things here. Antihistamines make me feel like gravity has increased hugely. I take the non-drowsy formulas but they still slow me down.

View of the art room... I think you can begin to see what I am contending with.

At least I have internet.

I'm pretty sure there is a yard sale in the offing.
But when I take a break, the view is pretty rewarding...
 View from the front deck.

I am disappointed that I will be unable to attend my reception at Pynelogs on Wednesday. My stupid car is being difficult and I am wary of pushing it on a long trip until I can get it checked out.
