Viva!

When people think about Canada, they generally don't think about how hot it can be in summer. I ordered this dress on the internet for those hot, sunny days. While it is lovely, colorful and cool, it really was quite "muu-muu-ish".

So I took in and shortened the sleeves, shortened the hem, added a belt and a hat and I am ready for the Farmer's Market.

You can check out my town's farmer's market here:  http://notesfromnd.blogspot.ca/2014/07/new-denver-farmers-market.html

remake

I have had this dress forever. I love the print. But I thought it looked a little dowdy at that length.

So I shortened the sleeves and hem and gave it a winterized update. Good to go.

Crazy Ravens New Nest

My favorite items to wear lately are linen jumpers and tights. Very comfortable and flexible.

because in my new location of Radium Hot Springs

I may have to outrun bighorn sheep.

Spirals!

So I modeled my spiral skirt with a white shirt, not bad.

but I like it even better with the orange.

Sorry about the fuzzy first photo. It was the same camera, time, setting...I don't know why some fuzz up! Anyhow, go see other fine photos at visible monday:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2013/08/visible-monday-109-i-dont-match-but-i-go.html#disqus_thread

A me-made skirt

I thrifted the orange shirt. Hmm, don't like the long sleeves. Those will probably get shortened.

I love this batik cotton print. Of course anything looks better than what I generally wear...

Black and White and an Easter Bonnet.

I made this blouse this weekend and I am rather proud of it. Love the print. McCall's pattern 5630. I had to add an inch to the sleeves to accommodate my "bingo wings" (sigh). I took it in at the shoulder and let it out at the waist as I become more "Pear-like" as time goes by (laziness and bad habits--I have a corn chip addiction.)

Once more with a chapeau and saddle shoes.

High rise and an abstract

I have a very high rise. I am tired of my tights sliding down towards my hips. So I cut the top off and added a 2 inch knit band. Now they stay up near my waist line. An inelegant solution but a comfortable one. No one is going to see the amendment but me. I wish I could do this with my other pants!!

And an abstract.

Oh, the places I'll go!

I wasn't crazy for the look of these shoes so they were sacrificed to the creativity gods.

And became....travelling shoes!!

With a me made jumper

and a belt. Now I just need somewhere to go. And soon because I'm getting Cabin Fever really badly!!
**Because several people asked**
The shoes are dead easy to make. I scanned an old geography book, tore up the maps and used acrylic medium to glue them to the shoes.I sealed them with a couple coats of Minwax polycrylic. I need to find a way to make them more supple so that they don't tear or shatter when I wear them. I may try bowling alley wax.

Wait, I know. I'll go to Visible Monday.

High on a Hill stood a lonely goatherd--- and Day 5

Yes, I'm sorry, I have gone off the deep end. That's why it's great to take photos of outfits. What seems like a good idea may just get rocks thrown at you. But check out the sweater!

It's Norwegian. I love the little fasteners.

And For Day 5 (of 30 paintings in 30 days), here is my current offering.

A quick little ballerina oil sketch.

And could you please vote on the little poll in the upper right corner of my blog. Thanks a bunch for dropping by.

Happy New YeaR 2013!!

Take a nice thrifted car coat.

Add a warm fur collar. Sorry, but nothing fights the bitter cold like real fur! Plus, this collar may be older than I am. How do you like that duck tape body double?

Now you are all cozy. HOly toledo, how can it be 13 years past the millenium!?

Slap on a seasonally inspired hat and go celebrate at First Night or something!

Four-eyes

These are a pair of glasses that I ordered on the net a while back. I felt like the dark rims were a little too strong. So being a painter....I painted them. I was going for snow leopard.

Skull and Crossbones

I decided to try McCalls pattern 6503. I though it looked super easy. Eh, not as much. There was a fair amount of cursing involved. If anyone can explain the sewing of the neck facing, I would appreciate it. However, when I saw this fabric on sale at Fabricland, I nearly skipped. I love the idea of the skull and crossbones and the demure little dress. I think I will make a belt covered in the fabric rather than this black one. I will enjoy wearing it through out October though.

Drop by and wish me Happy Birthday! Today's the day.
Secret birthday wish: a pair of Fluevogs! If anyone knows where I can find a pair for a reasonable (read cheap!) price, let me know. I am still trolling Ebay.

Take a Scarf

I have a beautiful sheer scarf that I seldom wear because it was so large that I couldn't figure out a way to wear it.

I could wrap it around a black skirt to make a skirt.
Or a terrific vest. HOW TO? watch this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32J57uoUfBM

Belting one back!

I have this concha belt that I have had for years. I still love it but it doesn't fit anymore. I had tried having belts lenthened at the shoe repair store at minimal success and too much expense. For this belt I decided to cut off the buckles and glue (using shoe-goo) the original belt to another larger belt.

Voila! Worked like a hot darn.

Now go check out what they are doing at Visible Monday:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2012/09/visible-monday-66-september-lace.html

OOh! and don't forget Plaidurday:  http://plaidurday.com/celebrate

I'm going to wear this....

Saddle Shoes

I love saddle shoes and just bought myself a new pair. Sorry, I am not a better photographer!

Fresh Paint--hot off the easel
"Polka Dot Bikini"

I wanted to call it "Exercise in Futility" but unless you are pale-skinned and have worked all summer trying to get a "tan" you might not get it.

Suspenders

I made this skirt to wear to the Farm Chicks show in Spokane a couple of years back. Then I found the suspenders. Done!
Check out Visible Monday at:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2012/07/visible-monday-53-neutrals-are-cool.html

I just had to  mention, after viewing some of the posts over at Not Dead, that I learn something new and interesting about style every Monday.... a new color combo, putting together garments in ways I would never have thought of. Thanks to Patti and all that participate. You inspire me every week!!
