Going Graphic

This is a kimono dress I sewed because I liked the graphic print. It's been a long time since I have posted on the Not Dead Yet Style blog, so here we go. Check out other fashion ideas at:  http://notdeadyetstyle.com/smart-woman-short-dress-visible-monday

Like an onion, I have layers..

It started with the little surplice top, then a thin turtle neck, jumper, skirt, tights, boots. A string of carnelians for luck....

Getting Artsy

I had been wanting an altered denim vest. I found a 1980's circa denim jacket (complete with fringe down the arms and on the back) at our local thrift store. I tore off the fringe and hacked away at the sleeves and sides of the jacket until a made a shape I was rather happy with and added some little ethnic embroidery bits that I have been packing around for a decade or so. Thrifted skirt and boots, a new lightweight turtleneck and jewelry I have had for years rounded out the outfit. I think I look quite artsy-fartsy!

And a rather ancient collage thrown in for good measure so that you know I'm an artist as well as a person who has fun with clothes.

asymmetrical tunic

I found the big scary dress at the thrift shop. I thought I would just play with it and see if I could turn it into a lagenlook piece. Of course the socks just make that outfit.

I rather like it taken in, with shortened sleeves and an asymmetrical hem.

It's loose and cool and I think I will wear it to a lecture tonight. Now if I could just get my dang feet in the picture...

Viva!

When people think about Canada, they generally don't think about how hot it can be in summer. I ordered this dress on the internet for those hot, sunny days. While it is lovely, colorful and cool, it really was quite "muu-muu-ish".

So I took in and shortened the sleeves, shortened the hem, added a belt and a hat and I am ready for the Farmer's Market.

You can check out my town's farmer's market here:  http://notesfromnd.blogspot.ca/2014/07/new-denver-farmers-market.html

remake

I have had this dress forever. I love the print. But I thought it looked a little dowdy at that length.

So I shortened the sleeves and hem and gave it a winterized update. Good to go.

Crazy Ravens New Nest

My favorite items to wear lately are linen jumpers and tights. Very comfortable and flexible.

because in my new location of Radium Hot Springs

I may have to outrun bighorn sheep.

Spirals!

So I modeled my spiral skirt with a white shirt, not bad.

but I like it even better with the orange.

Sorry about the fuzzy first photo. It was the same camera, time, setting...I don't know why some fuzz up! Anyhow, go see other fine photos at visible monday:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2013/08/visible-monday-109-i-dont-match-but-i-go.html#disqus_thread

Western shirt

I have a western shirt that I really (it's a classic Scully) like but it is pretty hard to style. It's not too bad with the midcalf denim skirt but not with the shoes and not that wide of a belt. Sorry about the fuzzy photo. I had the camera set on a timer. Half the shots were perfectly fine and the rest were fuzzy. Go figure.

I rather like it with the pencil skirt but not with those shoes. Maybe tights and ankle boot in the fall. The shirt is surprisingly heavy and way too hot for the weather we are having now.

A me-made skirt

I thrifted the orange shirt. Hmm, don't like the long sleeves. Those will probably get shortened.

I love this batik cotton print. Of course anything looks better than what I generally wear...

90% of the time.

Black and White and an Easter Bonnet.

I made this blouse this weekend and I am rather proud of it. Love the print. McCall's pattern 5630. I had to add an inch to the sleeves to accommodate my "bingo wings" (sigh). I took it in at the shoulder and let it out at the waist as I become more "Pear-like" as time goes by (laziness and bad habits--I have a corn chip addiction.)

Once more with a chapeau and saddle shoes.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Ok, this is an older photo. It definitely isn't green outside yet. I am planning and sewing but I am not about to go into a blizzard to take photos.

So just go check out Visible Monday for fashion ideas:  http://notdeadyetstyle.blogspot.ca/2013/03/visible-monday-89-suitably-dressed.html

High rise and an abstract

I have a very high rise. I am tired of my tights sliding down towards my hips. So I cut the top off and added a 2 inch knit band. Now they stay up near my waist line. An inelegant solution but a comfortable one. No one is going to see the amendment but me. I wish I could do this with my other pants!!

And an abstract.

"efg"   16x16 acrylic, stencils, acrylic skins, molding paste.

Gone awry!

An experiment with vogue pattern 8813. Despite sewing one panel on the wrong way and running out of fabric, I still rather like the fool thing. If I ever find a black and white fabric that co-ordinates, I will replace the front panel. You can't really tell from the photo but it has enormous pockets.

Oh, the places I'll go!

I wasn't crazy for the look of these shoes so they were sacrificed to the creativity gods.

And became....travelling shoes!!

With a me made jumper

and a belt. Now I just need somewhere to go. And soon because I'm getting Cabin Fever really badly!!
**Because several people asked**
The shoes are dead easy to make. I scanned an old geography book, tore up the maps and used acrylic medium to glue them to the shoes.I sealed them with a couple coats of Minwax polycrylic. I need to find a way to make them more supple so that they don't tear or shatter when I wear them. I may try bowling alley wax.

Wait, I know. I'll go to Visible Monday.

Everybody Knows I Love Big Pants..And Day 13

I like the comfort and freedom of big pants but i wasn't crazy about the look of the pants and just a top.

I do like the lagenlook style by adding an overtunic.

I don't think the belt really adds to it...

And my day 13 painting (well, collage actually)

High on a Hill stood a lonely goatherd--- and Day 5

Yes, I'm sorry, I have gone off the deep end. That's why it's great to take photos of outfits. What seems like a good idea may just get rocks thrown at you. But check out the sweater!

It's Norwegian. I love the little fasteners.

And For Day 5 (of 30 paintings in 30 days), here is my current offering.

A quick little ballerina oil sketch.

And could you please vote on the little poll in the upper right corner of my blog. Thanks a bunch for dropping by.
