Oh, the places I'll go!

I wasn't crazy for the look of these shoes so they were sacrificed to the creativity gods.

And became....travelling shoes!!

With a me made jumper

and a belt. Now I just need somewhere to go. And soon because I'm getting Cabin Fever really badly!!
**Because several people asked**
The shoes are dead easy to make. I scanned an old geography book, tore up the maps and used acrylic medium to glue them to the shoes.I sealed them with a couple coats of Minwax polycrylic. I need to find a way to make them more supple so that they don't tear or shatter when I wear them. I may try bowling alley wax.

Wait, I know. I'll go to Visible Monday.

I cannot believe how you transformed your shoes! Those are awesome!!! If I knew how to do that...I could go a little crazy with that technique. I'd have a whole closet of fun footwear. :)

MAP SHOES!!!!!!!
OMG!

I adore and would wear your entire outfit (except the belt part -- belts do continental drift up to my ribcage).

Now what shoes will fall victim to some map coverage in MY closet?????

BTW - ask Pat over on Project Minima for advice on reinforcing your maps. http://projectminima.blogspot.com/ I'd say maybe slather more acrylic medium on them?

Oh wow, I am with Lisa, those shoes are so cool. What did you use to paint the soles?

I've got shoe-painting on my to-do list, but I never thought of shoe decoupage! Clever, but as you say, it can be too stiff. Let me know if the wax works.

I love the way your blue shirt and tights brighten up that jumper!

Wow!! Nice job on the shoes!

Debbi, the soles were painted with white latex house paint and then a coat of acrylic paint.

How brilliant! From boring old brown shoes to awesome, cool map shoes - that can't can't be bought anywhere.

No shoes are getting thrown away in my home now, until I've examined the possibility of "mapping" them". It might even work with an old handbag!

Had to come by and check out those groovy shoes! Ah, so they-re decoupage. I thought maybe you had painted them, being a painter and all. Very nice. I haven't tried that yet. How do you find the mod podge or whatever you used? Does it not get too hard? They look great.
