Working/not working

I have been working, although I was seduced by the beautiful warm weather of the last few days. Today it turned cold with a vengence and they are calling for snow!I saw this house on Whidbey Island last fall. I can just imagine the Captain's wife pacing on the balcony. It isn't working for me yet so I will live with it for a while. I have to set it aside and work on something for the Wings over the Rockies show instead.

Happy Earth Day!

What are you going to do to mark Earth Day? I already:
Hang my clothes out to dry
Wash laundry in cold water
Use CFL light bulbs
Use sleep mode on the computers
Open the dishwasher after washing to air dry dishes
Use cloth bags for groceries (when I remember them, I'm getting better)
Shop second hand. I love thrift stores, dumps, and yard sales. We call our local dump the "Canal Flats Wal-mart" because most of the neighbors recycle things they find there.

To mark Earth Day, I am going to pick up the appalling litter I am finding by the trail I walk the dog on.

In Memoriam

I want to acknowledge the passing of two fine women. I just received word that Sharon Jonas has passed away.
Sharon was a fine watercolor painter who lived a few miles north. She was wonderfully kind and welcoming to me when I arrived in the valley.
Monique Dubois was killed in a vehicle accident about two weeks ago. I didn't know her as well but she was the manger of Key City Theatre Gallery and had done so much for the arts community.
Their passing leaves a great hole in the arts of the valley.

I love the use of text in decorating too. Carolyn Quartermaine has the most exquisite taste. She decorates beautiful rooms with silk fabrics that she prints with old script. Her sense of color is terrific. I bought her book "Revealed". Looking at it is like taking a trip to some romantic alternate universe.

Text in Design

I saw this dresser in a decorating magazine several years back and always thought it was cool. If I ever come across a suitable dresser at the dump, I may try this technique.

Angels and Men

This is a canvas I've prepared for the Arts, literally show coming up at Cranbrook. It's a neat concept to use text in a painting, or write about a painting or any permutation that combines text and art. I do like the look of layers of text, rather grafitti-like.

It is based on a song by Lhasa de Sela, one of my favorite singers. YOu can listen if you google Lhasa anywhere on this road.

Yes we Can-can

I have always liked this old poster of "La Fou-fou, with her coquettish eyes peering over her frothy skirts. So I decided to try out some newly acquired stamping/collage techniques to make one for myself. She will reign over the bathroom for a time.

Double Rainbow

We had the most glorious double rainbow that I have ever seen last night!

I am celebrating Easter by painting and enjoying the fact that I finally have the money, time and ability to do it. I will color some eggs later. Hope everyone has a terrific Easter.

Little Pine

This is what I am sending to the local government conference. They are holding a contest of sorts and winners will be viewed in Victoria BC. Here's hoping!

Prizes

At the top is the frame, place mats and pink flower vase I found at the thrift shop on one of my last scrounging bouts. I find it is a way to quench my gathering instinct without damaging my checkbook too much. It is recycling too!

The Red Dress won 2nd place in it's category at the Vis Art show. There was a small cash prize that I may blow on the Wilmer community garage sale this morning.

A sunny spring day, some cash in hand, my honey driving the truck and some junk...it doesn't get much better!

Irises

I made this little watercolor several years ago. I would like to get back into watercolor one of these days.

I made a new friend. Oddly enough, we grew up less than an hour's drive from one another and we have much in common right down to our music choices. Please check out Patrice's link:
